Solar Power for Klagenfurt: New Photovoltaic System Installed at Geyerschütt Car Park
Klagenfurt, Austria – As part of the roof renovation at the Geyerschütt car park in the center of Klagenfurt, a new photovoltaic system with a capacity of over 280 kWp was recently installed. It is expected to generate around 300,000 kWh of electricity per year, which is several times more than the car park itself consumes. The surplus electricity will be used for the planned EV charging infrastructure or fed into the public grid.
Carinthia is one of Austria’s sunniest federal states and offers ideal conditions for expanding solar energy. With 350 parking spaces and a central location, the Geyerschütt car park serves as a key mobility hub in the state capital. This project demonstrates how existing infrastructure can be used to support the energy transition. Car parks are not just functional spaces, but also play a role in climate-friendly urban development.
Expanding on-site energy generation: more locations in the pipeline
Following the first solar installation at the Prater garage in Vienna in 2022, Klagenfurt is now the second Best in Parking site with its own energy generation. Additional photovoltaic systems are already being planned in Vienna, including at the Park & Ride facilities in Hütteldorf, Spittelau, and Leopoldau, as well as at the Migerkastraße car park.
